Can I float if I’m menstruating?
Yes! Treat it like going to a swimming pool and use a tampon or menstrual cup. If you don’t have the proper supplies, we ask that you reschedule your float for another day.
What if I’m claustrophobic?
The tank was built with anti-claustrophobic design and the clamshell lid (which is domed) can be left open during your experience if you prefer.
Can I float while pregnant?
Absolutely! Many Pregnant women love to float because of the removal of pressure off your lower back and provide the perfect environment to bond with your baby. Plus, the stress relief, pain relief and sleep improvement qualities are great for pregnant women. If you are in your first trimester, we recommend speaking to your doctor before you float.
Should I float with a fresh tattoo?
It’s best to avoid floating with a fresh tattoo. We like to call floating the “world’s largest papercut finder.” So, not only can the salt burn if it’s not fully healed, but the water solution could cause fading or discoloration of your tattoo. How long you should wait before floating depends on the tattoo and how quickly it heals, Floaters and tattoo artists suggest waiting 4-6 weeks.
What if I fall asleep?
Due to the 1100 pounds of Epsom salt, it is extremely difficult to turn over asleep or awake. If you do fall asleep, soft music and a soothing voice will wake you up to let you know your session is over. In some cases, we may enter the room to wake you up.
How is the water cleaned?
The high concentration of Epsom salt makes the water solution a hostile environment for bacteria and most microorganisms, our Superior Float Tanks are equipped with the 1 Micron Filtration System for enhanced filtration. The Micron Filtration System’s custom X-100 filter is able to filter particles from the water to 1 micron in size (hair is 50-70 microns for reference!) and is both NSF 50 and FDA compliant for drinking water (Class 1 Filtration).
Standard competitor pool and spa filter cartridges only filter to 20-30 microns and require regular cleaning. This filtration system cycles the water three times between each guest and also treats the water with hydrogen peroxide, Ozone, and UV light. After every float, the water and float rooms are visually inspected. Ask us if you’d like to see the Micron Filtration System in action!
How is the tank cleaned?
Our associates will ensure all touch-points inside the float tank and out are cleaned with a high-concentration H202 (Hydrogen Peroxide) spray between every client (this includes tank buttons, walls, doors and handles, shower handles, benches and exterior door handles).
What if I get salt in my eyes?
It might sting—however, we provide a small towel and a fresh bottle of water in your tank to spray then dab your eyes with.
How many times should I float?
For first-timers, we recommend floating three times to really get into a comfortable place. The first time you float – there is a lot of information to absorb. You may just be getting used to the idea. Your mind may be overactive. The second time – you have all the facts and you are ready to try it again… the third time is usually the charm! You can enter the tank with less anxiety simply because you’ve gathered your info and you’ve done it before. It’s starting to feel like “home”. You might set an intention or simply commit to letting go and getting the most out of this magical session! Once you have three floats under your belt, you can better gauge how each has made you feel and how you felt in the time between.
Who should not float?
People with incontinence, uncontrolled epilepsy, open wounds or sores, an infectious disease, and people with drug or alcohol intoxication or kidney problems should not float. If you suffer from a serious medical condition, please consult your physician before attempting to float. Also, if you have dyed your hair within the last two weeks or currently have had a spray tan, you will have to reschedule your appointment.
What if I recently dyed my hair—can I still float?
One important step in preparing for your float is considering your hair dye schedule.
It’s best not to float for about two weeks after you dye your hair. The best test to see if you are ok to float is what we call the “towel test”. After your shower (with shampoo), if the color shows up on the towel, you should wait. OR if in the shower you still see color running out, same principle!
As for the color/texture, the salt can be drying over time (oddly enough, it softens the skin). It won’t take the color out, but it could potentially make the hair dry or dull. Most of our guests keep their dye schedule in mind when they book a float.
Does your membership savings include float tank?
